Our Story
Some businesses start with a business plan. Mine started with some old plant hangers and the thought, "I'm pretty sure I can make that."
I'm Kathy — a self-described introvert, proud Grammy of 9, and the hands behind every piece at Sweat & Sawdust. I live on a 5-acre farmhouse in Caroline County, Virginia, where life moves a little slower and making things by hand just makes sense.
The name? That came naturally too. When my husband and I decided we needed chickens (as you do), we built a chicken coop together for my birthday. Walking through the yard afterward — sweaty, covered in sawdust, and completely happy — I thought: that's it. That's us. Sweat & Sawdust.
That same love of creating and working with your hands is woven into everything I make. I've always believed in recycling, reusing, and repurposing whatever I can — and I'm intentional about the materials I choose. My indoor hangers are made with natural cotton fibers, while my outdoor hangers use durable polypropylene fiber built to withstand the elements. All of it is proudly made right here in the USA, by me, in my little corner of Virginia.
Every macramé plant hanger I create is made by me, start to finish. No shortcuts, no mass production — just time, intention, and a whole lot of knots. Whether you're hanging it on a sunny porch or gifting it to someone you love, I hope it brings a little warmth and handmade charm into your home.
Thank you for being here. It means more than you know.
